December 22, 1998:

Long-time-no-see! I hope you all have been enjoying the holidays! Nothing earth-shattering on the Kevin news front, but a few tidbits to bring you up to date:

  • Love Is is pretty much a "done deal" now, meaning there will probably not be any more singles released from it. The GOOD news is, Kevin is very grateful for your VOTES and input for singles from Love Is, and word has it that he's excited to know what his fans (friends!) like and don't like.

  • Lotsa folks will be enjoying a Kevin concert in the next few days, including the one on New Year's Eve. (I'm jealous!) After that, apparently Kevin will be taking a short, well-deserved break from the road. He'll also likely be scouting and recording new songs for another album!

  • Rumors have been flying (not just in Kevin-Land, mind you) about the alleged "demise" of Asylum Records, Kevin's label. There are stories of firings, hirings, shakedowns and changes ad nauseam. Suffice it to say, "nobody knows" what's really going on over there. So just sit tight, pray for a new Kevin album to come out ASAP, and keep requesting Kevin songs on the radio! It really does help to keep his songs alive on the airwaves. :-)

  • You may have noticed that Brian Arsenault posted on the KevinFriends message board (Thanks, Brian!). TK reports from the recent Santa Rosa concert that Brian currently has a full beard. Not to worry, goatee-fans: Brian intends to trim it down for the holidays.

  • Brian has taken the goatee "Quizlet" with the wacky spirit in which it was intended. It's been a while, and I'm ready for another "Quizlet" question! Have an idea? Just e-mail me!

  • Oh yeah! I finally got a scanner at home. Don't stay up all night waiting (LOL), but do keep half an eye open for new Kevin pics.

That's all for now (whew). I wish EVERYONE a blessed, safe, healthy, and FUN holiday season. Here's to a fantastic 1999 for Kevin and all of his friends. "Cheers!"

November 24, 1998:

  • Almost forgot! TK reported that Kevin is scheduled to sing (lip sync?) on the Annabelle's Wish float in the annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade! We think that float will appear right before Santa's, but watch the whole parade, just in case. "Check your local listings." Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

November 20, 1998:

  • "I yam what I yam:" Kevin is in the November 24 issue of Country Weekly, in a "recipes of the stars" spread. Featured is a nice big pic of Kevin, plus his mom's recipe for yams. (Thanks, TK!)

November 18, 1998:

  • This just in! Thanks to a Friend over on AOL for alerting us. :-)

Scheduled for Tuesday, January 5 at 8:00 p.m. EST on TNN is The Life And Times Of Kevin Sharp:

"THE LIFE AND TIMES OF KEVIN SHARP chronicles the life and music of country star and cancer survivor Kevin Sharp through family photographs, vintage footage and interviews with country music executives and fellow performers."

  • Also scheduled on TNN, for Tuesday, December 29 at 8:00 p.m. EST, is the Third Annual TNN Country Dance Invitational, hosted by Shelley Mangrum and Kevin Sharp.

November 17, 1998:

  • mission accomplished! Thanks to our notes (and prayers!), Kevin Sharp is scheduled to make his debut at the Grand Ole Opry on November 21, 1998!

Watch the "Backstage" show on TNN this Saturday at 8 p.m. EST, then stay tuned for Kevin's premiere at 8:30. (Keep an eye out here for further details.)

We're thrilled for ya, Kevin! Congratulations.

  • Also, don't miss the dance contest Kevin is hosting tomorrow, Tuesday, on TNN at 10:00 p.m. EST!

November 13, 1998:

  • Shame on People magazine for not including Kevin in the "sexiest bald men" spread in their "sexiest man alive" issue. Well... maybe they're just saving him for their cover!

  • The music/video kiosk thingies (what ARE they called?!) in KMart, WalMart, etc. currently feature the NFL Country album. Watch closely -- you'll see a (very) quick clip of Kevin singing with Ryan!

  • Congratulations to Neal McCoy for his forthcoming Opry debut this Saturday. (When is Kevin's turn?!)

November 3, 1998:

  • The Kevin Sharp Friends Club has a great idea! Send your photo -- and experience -- in a letter to Country Weekly for their Fan Page. Not only will it boost Friends Club membership, but it will also get Kevin's face "out there!"
    Country Weekly
    Attn: Fan Pages
    600 E Coast Ave.
    Lantana, FL 33464

  • Also, the KSFC needs photos, stories and concert reviews for the next Sharp Notes! If anyone has anything they want to share they can send them to the FC addy. (While you're at it, send a little something to KevinFriends, as well!) (Just be sure not to write on the back of the photos or the printer can't use them. The lighter and brighter the photos are, the better they will turn out in print.)

October 27, 1998:

  • Target stores are carrying a new Country Christmas album for 1998/99, but you might find a stray copy or two of last year's compilation, if you hurry! It included Kevin's beautiful version of Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas.

  • Speaking of Christmas, last year's Annabelle's Wish will again be promoted this year. Since Kevin was involved with the soundtrack (another beautiful song, If You Believe), keep an eye on various holiday events like parades, TV specials, etc. Ya never know where Mr. Sharp will turn up!

  • If you missed last Sunday's "Music Fest '98" concert webcast, you can still enjoy the "encore," plus a coupla dozen pics, here. There's even a link to buy Kevin Sharp sheet music. Who knew!

  • Don't forget, you can always catch the latest and greatest Kevin news here at KevinFriends! Thanks to all who have supported this site. If you've any ideas or questions, drop 'em in an e-mail. :-)

October 26, 1998:

  • Don't forget: We Can Get Through This was released to radio today. Call and request it now! (Please?)

October 23, 1998:

  • Thanks, Jeff, for this hot tip: Scheduled for Sunday, October 25, is a "free, exclusive concert webcast" of Kevin Sharp from Celebrity Theatre, in Phoenix, AZ. Cool, huh? You'll need RealPlayer installed on your computer for the event. Go to Music Fest '98 for more details!

October 22, 1998:

  • Yes! According to some KevinFriends, the new compilation NFL Country was released to stores on October 20th!

October 9, 1998:

  • The new Sharp Notes is arriving in mailboxes everywhere! It's CHOCK FULL of HOT NEWS, and I'm sure not gonna blow the wind outta Marlene and Elaine's sails, LOL! Here are three hints on what's inside, though: "Exclusive," "Insider," and "TK Happy Dance," haha! To find out more, you'll have to join the Friends Club:
    Kevin Sharp Friends Club
    P.O. Box 888
    Camino, CA 95709

    Tell 'em KevinFriends sent ya!

  • Actually, here's one tidbit of news that I'll reveal: The next single, We Can Get Through This, is due to be released to radio on October 26th. Get your phone-dialing finger ready!

  • As for release dates of the forthcoming compilations featuring Kevin, I'm seeing several different dates from several different sources. If/when a CD is released, I'll be sure to announce it here on KevinFriends the day it happens!

  • Last but not least, here's a new link to NFL Country. Looks like the site's not complete yet, but it should be worth bookmarking.

  • September 29, 1998:

    • October's gonna be a busy month in the record stores for Kevin Sharp fans! Due to be released on October 20 (though I've also seen Oct. 13th) is 1998's NFL Country, featuring Kevin and San Diego Chargers' Ryan Leaf on a duet called The Look of a Woman in Love! Album proceeds benefit United Way.

The new CD features duets with NFL and country stars, including Randy Travis, Steve Wariner, Bryan White, Kenny Chesney, Neal McCoy, Jo Dee Messina, Michael Peterson, and of course, Kevin. NFL talent joining them include Peyton Manning, Howard Cross, Esera Tuaolo, Michael Strahan, Brad Johnson, Chad Cascadden, and Ryan Leaf.

Another CD called NFL Jams will also be released. It includes NFL and R&B stars.

"Recordings from the albums will be supported with behind the scenes footage, as well as music videos, seen during select network NFL pre-game TV broadcasts, played on stadium jumbotrons and played on all major music video networks."

On both albums will be an "NFL Anthem song," We're All In This Together, featuring over 50 NFL players and numerous entertainers across all musical genres. It's not yet confirmed whether Kevin was a part of this particular song!

    September 28, 1998:

    • The people have voted! According to one fan, Kevin announced on KNCI that We Can Get Through This will be released as the next new single! He also announced it at last Friday's Dover, Ohio concert. Yep, that song was voted "favorite up-tempo song from Love Is" by Kevin's most devoted friends. (However, a date and details for any release remain unconfirmed as of today.) Meanwhile, you can still vote for your favorite songs, if you haven't already. Who knows? Our favorite ballad just might make it to the airwaves!

    September 27, 1998:

    • Due October 13th: A brand new Kevin Sharp tune, Tell My Father, on The Civil War: The Nashville Sessions, on Atlantic-Nashville Records! Click here for the press release, which describes it ALL in detail. (Note that online record stores list the release date as October 13, while the Atlantic website says November 3. Let's hope it's sooner than later.) Thanks to TK for the scoop!

    September 6, 1998:

    • One of your missions has changed just a weeee bit: KSFC has informed me that Kevin wants you to choose your favorite "up tempo" and "ballad" songs from Love Is. One of them will very likely become the next new single! So if you haven't filled out the online survey, please do so quickly! And if you already have answered it, Thank You -- but feel free to swing by again and submit the new-improved survey. :-)

    September 4, 1998:

    • Your mission, should you decide to accept it, is....

    September 3, 1998:

    • The September 15th issue of Country Weekly magazine will feature a story about Patsy -- who is not only Traci's mom, but also Neal McCoy's fan club president (Dad runs the merchandising). Watch for a few mentions of Kevin (who would be Patsy's son-in-law, of course)!

    September 2, 1998:

    • Kevin Sharp at the Opry! A darned good idea from Colleen:
"In a radio interview, Paul Brandt was talking about the day he performed at the Opry. It seems that a fan wrote to the Opry and said that Paul Brandt had never played there, and >>poof!<< He was invited to play there. Do you think Kevin has some fans that might do that? (wink, wink, nudge, nudge)"

I personally think that snail-mail letters would be most effective:

      Grand Ole Opry
      2804 Opryland Drive
      Nashville, TN 37214

    • Some bad news: If She Only Knew pretty much flopped around on the Billboard charts, never getting much higher than #62. The good news: There will be another new single released to radio. Call and request I'm Trying now!

    • Terry mentioned that bass guitarist Brian Arsenault's birthday is September 8th! Happy birthday in advance, Brian! :-)

    • Rumor mill: What do Kevin Sharp and the NFL have in common? Stay tuned to KevinFriends to find out!

    July 17, 1998:

    • If She Only Knew is back on the charts! PLEASE call your local country stations and request it!

    • There's a full-page, full-color pic of Kevin in the September (yep! September) issue of Modern Screen's Country Music magazine. There've been better shots, but hey, it's Kevin.

    Country Weekly, July 7, 1998

    July 6, 1998:

    • There's a "full page yummy photo of Kevin, a full page story and a small photo of him and Traci right after they got back from the honeymoon" in the July 7 issue of Country Weekly magazine! (It has George Strait on the cover, plus Kevin in the lower-right corner.)

    July 5, 1998:

    • Another new must-see KevinFriends Link: Myles presents a page of his very own awesome Kevin pics on his Country Hunks pages. While you're over there, be sure to cruise around the rest of Myles' pages, starting with his How Do I Live tribute to Trisha Yearwood!

    • Speaking of links, check out another new page of original Kevin pics at The Best of Pat & Tom!

    June 30, 1998:

    • News Flash! Kevin is scheduled to be on TNN tonight at 10 p.m. (Eastern), on a show called Celebrating the Hitmakers. Thanks, Kris, for the alert!

    June 29, 1998:

    • The new single, If She Only Knew, debuted on the Billboard country singles chart at #72 (June 27th). Way to go, Kevin! Let's all keep on calling in those requests!

    Kevin Sharp, Love Is

    June 23, 1998:

    • RUN, do NOT walk, to the nearest CD store for the NEW Kevin Sharp CD, Love Is! (You can buy it here.)

    • The Kevin Sharp page at Elektra has been updated.

    June 22, 1998:

    • Kevin is rumored to have fallen while performing -- He is resting and relaxing comfortably. Kevin and the gang are hoping to be back on the road around July 4th. GET WELL SOON, Kevin!

    • Needless to say, Kevin was a no-show at Fan Fair, but the parties and ballgames went on -- "with Neal and Mark Miller filling in."

    June 6, 1998:

    • TK shared some upcoming Kevin TV appearances:
    • TNN Music City News Awards, June 15
    • The City of Hope Softball Game re-play, June 17
    • Prime Time Country, July 1
    • ...and probably on Today's Country and This Week in Country during Fan Fair week
    • All of the above-mentioned shows are on TNN. CHECK THE LISTINGS!
    • Kevin was on KNCI with Pat (of Pat and Tom fame) yesterday morning. A loyal listener and Kevin-fan reports:
"Kevin is a nut. Pure and simple. He is sporting a 'sunburn' from a tanning bed incident. He bought one for Traci and he uses it when he gets the chance. So what does the silly guy do? He gets his face a little too close to the lights, and burns his nose. LOL! He got a lot of teasing about that.

He also said the album will be out on the 23rd. Only 6 of the original cuts made it onto the new cd. Love Is All That Really Matters did NOT make it. Go figure on that. But some of my favs did: Kiss the Girl, So Tears Won't Fall, Scared Like That, Still Love, She's Just Got To Be Mine, IF She Only Knew. My favorite, If I Open My Eyes, did not make it and I am bummed. So next time I see him, he is going to hear about it!

He is going to be on Music City News on June 30th. They taped something and I didn't catch what it was [Celebrity Hitmakers?], but let me just say this... He is wearing his wife's pants. LMBO! He forgot to bring a spare and had to borrow them from Traci... He kept asking the DJ where he got his info.

Another thing, he did mention that the show in Allentown was awesome. He said he wishes that every night could be like that. He also wished he had that on videotape. Anyway, the new songs were great and I can't wait for the CD in 2 and a half weeks. WOOHOO!"

(Many thanks to the loyal fan for sharing all the great details!)

    June 2, 1998:

Things are hoppin' again in Kevin Land!

    • "A little bird told me" she saw Kevin at his Dollywood concert last Sunday...
"Kevin told the crowd that the new CD, Love Is, will be out on June 23! The new single, If She Only Knew, will be released to radio on June 15th. The back cover picture of the new CD is very sexy! Kevin with his shirt undone! He also told us that there is a new song on the CD with Neal..."

    • Another little bird told me:
"Neal McCoy did some background vocals on one of the singles on the [new] album. The one he worked on was What Other Man. They sound great. A good blend of two totally different styles."

    • Last but not least, the Elektra website, under "News," also lists the release date for Love Is as June 23! Oddly and annoyingly enough, Kevin's website over at Elektra still says March 23. Grrrrrr...

    June 1, 1998:

    • Kevin was in the June 9th issue of Country Weekly, pictured in the "Shades" (as in sunglasses) photo-spread. His forthcoming album, Love Is, was also pictured (again), as one of June's new releases! Keep those fingers crossed.

    • Don't forget tomorrow's release of the Country Superstar Hits CD from Hip-O Records. Kevin Sharp's contribution is Love At the End of the Road, and album sales benefit City of Hope National Medical Center and Beckman Research Institute, located in Los Angeles. City of Hope is renowned for its treatment and research to combat cancer, diabetes, HIV/AIDS and other devastating illnesses. The new compilation-CD can be purchased in major retailers nationwide, or by calling 1-800-409-4197. (For more information, scroll down to May 13th news.)

    May 26, 1998:

    • Maybe? Two popular internet CD-stores list a June 23 release date for Love Is. Of course, the release date has previously been listed as March 24, so who knows? Let's hope it's true!

    • Some darn-near official news about FAN FAIR can be found on Earl's Band and Staff pages!

    May 15, 1998:

Olivia Newton-John, Back With A Heart!

    • Sorry for this shameless non-Kevin plug, but I can't resist...

Olivia Newton-John has released a wonderful all-new country CD in the States today (later this month in Europe), entitled Back With A Heart! There is a slight Kevin-connection, however: Olivia is one of Kevin's faves, she's a cancer-survivor, and she also took on Kevin-producer Chris Farren as a producer on her album. (David Foster is also there, as well as a few more musical "big-guns" such as Don Cook, Tony Brown, Gary Burr, and John Farrar.)

Visit MCA Nashville for information and sound-clips, and Only Olivia for all the Olivia news that fits.

"We now return to our previously-scheduled Kevin Sharp program," hehehe...

    May 10, 1998:

    • This just in! Fan Fair News!

TK brings us the info we've been waiting for...

On Thursday, June 18th there will be the Asylum show from 11:30 to 1:00 p.m. at the Fairgrounds during Fan Fair. Kevin will lead off. There are NO more tickets available for this show. You have to be attending Fan Fair (a.k.a. pay the $90) to get into any of the showcases.

At 5:00 p.m. there will be the Ken Mellons/Kevin Sharp Fan Clubs party and concert. At 7:30 to ? will be the "St. Jude Softball Showdown TWO." The location has not yet been finalized. Hope to have that soon.

Kevin's booth number at Fan Fair is 140, same as last year.

Now remember... THIS IS ALL TENTATIVE. I know a lot of you have been asking about the plans, and at the moment this is what is available. Stay tuned for more info as it arrives!

    • TK is taking a head-count of who will be attending the above-mentioned Kevin festivities. Please e-mail me if you're going, and I'll forward it to TK. Also, please be sure to put "Kevin" in the SUBJECT field. I get a LOT of junk e-mail, and I don't want to carelessly delete your letter. Thanks! :-)

    May 4, 1998

    • Kevin and Traci are on page 240 of the May 11th People magazine! It's a great shot of the newlyweds (and funny quote from Kevin) at last month's ACM Awards. This issue of People just so happens to be the "50 Most Beautiful People" issue.

    • Kevin is in the May 12th issue of Country Weekly magazine! Pages 18-21 are all about his wedding to Traci, including mucho fun pictures you won't want to miss.

    • I've realized I haven't placed the Friends Club address more prominently on these pages. Shame on me, haha! Here it is, if you want to join -- as TK always says, "It's worth every penny!"

    April 21, 1998:

    • Speculation is flying about the release of Love Is. Word has it that there were "too many ballads" on it, and Kevin is back in the studio to beef it up a bit. "Nobody knows" whether it'll finally be released in May, June, or -- ugh -- July. Meanwhile, please don't despair! Continue requesting Love Is All That Really Matters. If the station won't play it for any reason, complain nicely and request another Kevin song! If the DJ you talk to is being chatty, mention Kevin's recent wedding to Traci, his tour, his new bus, anything to help keep his name out there! GO, KEVIN!

    April 14, 1998:

    • Rumor has it that the new album might not be released until June. Let's hope it isn't true. Sooner is better!

    April 10, 1998:

    • Yep, (as far as I know) Kevin and Traci got married today in Texas! Betcha they all did the TK Happy Dance at the reception!

    • At last! The promised Kevin story is online at MTV Online! Click on "Local," then pick "Dallas" -- The Kevin story is under "News 'n' Reviews." If you don't see it there, then go to the "Archives" link. (LOL! Ya got all that?)

    • New link! Kevin's page on the All-Music Guide. Lots of fun (if not entirely accurate) details about our favorite country singer!

    • Kris was first to spot a "coming soon" promo-poster in Target's music department, featuring a BIG ol' pic of the new album cover!

    • Don't forget to visit Love Is: the first and original page celebrating the impending arrival of Kevin's new CD!

    April 7, 1998:

    • Love Is: celebrating the impending arrival of Kevin's new CD! Visit this corner of KevinFriends to read all about it -- and be one of the first on your block to SEE it! (Many Thanks to TK again for her help!)

    • I heard Kevin on The Road radio-show this past weekend. Kevin sang four live tunes: If You Love Somebody, She's Sure Taking It Well, She Just Has To Be Mine, and Nobody Knows. It was awesome! Kevin spoke fondly of Make-A-Wish, and of his Dad -- whom Kevin hopes to record a song with someday!

    • Word has it that Kevin is bouncing around on-stage again. Take it easy there, Kevin!
