December 11, 1999:
- Make the Season Bright! The Country Christmas compilation is still available at many Target stores. Kevin's rendition of Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas is beautiful, and shouldn't be missed. The CD would make a great Holiday gift. As would the soundtrack or video of Annabelle's Wish, or any other Kevin Sharp item for that matter! :-) Visit the Discography for complete details.
December 7, 1999:
- Move it! This website will be moving to a new URL in the very near future. Keep an eye here for updates, or join the announcement mailing list (sign up on the main page)!
- Two nights in a row!
I went to Kevin Sharp's Virginia (Birchmere) and Baltimore (Rock-A-Billy's) shows this past week. They were fun, especially 'cuz I had a verrrrrrrrrry special guest! TK, who takes a lot of wonderful photos for KevinFriends, flew into town to join me.
All of the guys look great (Traci does, too). They were all in good spirits, in spite of some bad news: Jerry and Jeff are both leaving the band.
Jerry's last show was this past Thursday in Cumberland. He'll be going back to Wisconsin to join "several" orchestras. He misses the classical scene.
I think Jeff said his last gig will be in a few weeks, then he's going to go back to school. He's studying music education. (I could be wrong, though!)
Both guys will be missed. I hope they keep in touch with us!
There was some GOOD news, though: Jerry and Dave are both engaged to be married. Big congrats to Jerry and Stacey, and to Dave and Malia!
Kevin was up to his usual antics on stage. He did "impersonations" of Shania, Backstreet Boys, Garth, Neal, Van Halen (!) and a new one, Kenny Chesney's "She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy." Kevin said something along the lines of, "Man, if she thinks a tractor's sexy, I'll show her sexy!" Then he started bumping and grinding and gyrating -- probably purring, too, LOL.
No "new" songs except the ones featured the past few months: "Turn of the Century," "I Could Not Ask For More," and "You'll Never Break Another Heart." Hmm... On both nights, Kevin sang "Friends In Low Places," MUCH to the enjoyment of the crowds. The shows came very close to becoming "karaoke nights!"
OH yeah, and congrats to Robert "Big Dog" (Kevin's bus driver), who has lost a lot of weight. He's healthy, happy, and as funny as ever. From here on, we'll all call him "Medium Dog," LOL.
That's all the news for now. Please don't forget to take part in the latest mission. It's important!
November 5, 1999:
- "Read all about it!" A new book was released this week to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation, titled These Are a Few of My Favorite Things, in which celebrities -- including Kevin Sharp -- list the things they love ("in their own handwriting and on their own stationery"). Want to know what Kevin listed? You'll have to buy the book!
November 4, 1999:
- Hear Kevin talk about his involvement with Gilda's Club on FOX TV's FOX AND FRIENDS morning show, Monday, November 8th at 8:50 a.m. EST. He received the "It's Always Something" Award at its Fifth Annual Comedy Gala in New York City. The award recognizes Kevin as an individual whose experience with cancer has touched the lives of others, and who has shown others, by personal example, how to live with cancer.
October 15, 1999:
- This just in! A special is scheduled to appear on The Discovery Channel on Monday, October 18, at 9 p.m. EST. The show is called The Bald Truth, and features none other than Kevin.
- For Sunday, October 31, Kevin is slated to sing the National Anthem before the NASCAR "Memphis 250" race, on TNN. (Not sure of the race name, sorry!) For BOTH of these events, be sure to check your local listings, as always.
- This past October 1 and 2, Kevin participated in the "East Texas Angel Network" golf tourney/concert/fundraiser. It's a "pet project" for buddy Neal McCoy. The event took place in Longview, Texas, and raised $200,000 to help seriously ill children. I believe ETAN has a website, but I can't find it, LOL. More on that later. ;-)
- I'm off to Atlantic City for the weekend to see... who else... Kevin Sharp! Check back here for all of the juicy details, and pics if I'm lucky!
October 6, 1999:
- Click here for the CBS Evening News with Dan Rather website, featuring Kevin in "The American Dream." :-)
October 5, 1999:
- FLASH! Watch CBS Evening News on Wednesday, October 6 (check your local listings for time/station). Dan Rather features Kevin in a special weekly segment of the newscast called "The American Dream." (Thanks to three "little birds" for alerting us!)
- If you joined the KevinFriends announcement mailing list, you'll receive late-breaking news, including VCR alerts, in your e-mail! Go to the main page to sign up.
August 31, 1999:
Quite a bit of news this time around!
- Knoxville, Anyone? Star photographer TK found some info about a particularly appealing Kevin concert:
Take a trip to Knoxville, TN on Friday, September 10, where Kevin and the gang will perform for a BIG "hometown" (well close to home, anyway) crowd at the Tennessee Valley Fair!
Kevin Sharp is the headline entertainment on the opening day, and will perform TWO shows (at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.). Best of all, the shows are FREE with paid admission (as little as $5) to the fair!
The rest of the line-up for the whole week looks pretty hot, too. With Kevin and the gang so close to home, plenty of fun and surprises are guaranteed! Click on the link to find out how to get tickets.
There are still quite a few tour dates left on Kevin's schedule. Visit Pollstar for the wheres and whens.
- Sharp Claws: Kevin and the gang have a cat! Thanks to Kris for the scoop...
"Lee found a cat under the stage before sound-check, at the July 17, 1999, Mineral Wells, WV show. It was very dehydrated, and covered with fleas. Kevin and Dave gave it a bath right away, on the edge of the stage." (Talk about a christening!)
The cat is a black-and-white male, and they've named it Roadie. Kathy adds...
"Now he rides on the dash of the tour bus, watches the cars go by, and chases the windshield wipers. When the guys are performing, he takes over Dan's bunk."
Latest word on Roadie is that Kevin and Traci want to keep him at their house to chase mice, but the band wants him to travel on the bus. Does anyone know who won out on that one? And... Does anyone have a pic of the little beasty?
- Kevin Interview: The interview on television's Inside Edition finally aired on July 30th, much to everyone's surprise. A videotape of the show is available, but it's pricey. Thanks again to Kris for some detective-work:
Send name, address, phone number, show subject and air-date, along with credit card number and exp. date, to TWilliams@kingworld.com, or mail a check/money order to King World Productions, 515 W. 57th, New York, NY, 100019, Attn: T. Williams. Shipping and handling is $2.50. For more info or phone orders, call 1-800-EDITION, ext. 5656.
KevinFriends is simply passing this information along. Purchase at your own risk!
- New CD? Nope, not yet. But rumor has it that a LOT of new songs have already been recorded. Now we just have to wait and see when the record company will release the latest, greatest Kevin Sharp album!
July 12, 1999:
Some Kevin-on-TV dates! (Check your local listings.)
- Monday, July 19: TNN, 8 p.m. A rebroadcast of The Life and Times of Kevin Sharp.
- Thursday, September 2: TNN, 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. (which is technically Sept. 3). Wrangler/City Of Hope Celebrity Softball Challenge '99. "Country great Kenny Rogers and TNN Music City News Country Entertainer of the Year Neal McCoy co-host the lineup of country artists and celebrities, including Bryan White, Diamond Rio, Shane Minor, Kevin Sharp, Mark Wills and more, batting for charity in the Wrangler/City Of Hope Celebrity Challenge '99 from Greer Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee." (I believe this game took place during Fan Fair. Better late than never!)
July 7, 1999:
Thanks to some friends over on the AOL Kevin Sharp music message boards, there's some new NEWS!
- On Wednesday, June 23, 1999, Pat and Tom of KNCI fame played new songs given to them by Kevin. One song is a remake of an Edwin McCain song called I Could Not Ask For More from his latest album, Messenger (recently released and climbing the alternative/pop charts). You can listen to a clip of Edwin's version here.
Also, Kevin was supposed to be in the KNCI studio last week. Did anyone hear it?
- Kevin has allegedly recorded at least half-an-album's worth of new songs, at least some of which were produced by Jeffrey Steele (he co-wrote If You Love Somebody and a few other Kevin tunes).
- Fan Fair and the Friends Club party were a HUGE success, plus Kevin performed for a second time at the Grand Ole Opry, for a "Superstar Spectacular." Congratulations again, Mr. Sharp!
- Two of the new songs Kevin performed in Nashville are called You'll Never Break Another Heart and Turn of the Century. (Check back here for updates!)
- The newest Sharp Notes newsletter should arrive in your mailbox any second now, if it hasn't already. Thanks, Marlene and Elaine for another super job.
- If She Only Knew was recorded by pop/R&B group 98°. It's not nearly as good as Kevin's version (of course, haha!), but it's fun to hear another version. (It's on their 98° And Rising album, by the way.)
- Last but not least, Kevin appeared in the Father's Day issue of Country Weekly magazine, with -- what else? -- a sweet little feature about him and his father.
- Heard some Kevin news? E-mail KevinFriends!
April 8, 1999:
- The folks on KNCI radio said the other day that "Kevin is hoping to expand the Sharp family." We'll send him wishes of encouragement, of course, but he'll be awfully busy this summer otherwise! Check out dozens of tour dates on Pollstar. He'll surely be expanding his circle of friends this year!
March 19, 1999:
- Word has it that the Kevin piece on Inside Edition has been postponed. I suggest watching it today anyway, just to be sure. Check back here for the latest!
March 17, 1999:
- VCR ALERT!
Kevin will be featured on the syndicated program Inside Edition this Friday, March 19th. Check your local listings!
Their schedule summary says (with their not-so-"sharpe" spelling, not mine!):
SONG AND A PRAYER
We introduced the world to Kevin Sharpe a few years ago. Kevin was a cancer survivor whose life’s dream was to become a country singer. Sharpe not only beat cancer, he became one of the most successful young country artists in the business. INSIDE EDITION revisits Kevin to see how his life has changed and if fame and fortune have brought him happiness.
March 15, 1999:
- There's still time to vote! The "Golden Pick Award" ballot-card is also in the March 23rd issue of Country Weekly! (See the March 12th News, below.)
March 13, 1999:
- Fan Fair reminder: The Kevin Sharp Friends Club Party will be held on Monday, June 14th from 11:00 to 2:00 pm in Nashville. Deadline for ticket purchase is March 31st. Seating is limited! Contact ksfanclb@innercite.com for more information.
March 12, 1999:
- There's a new KevinFriends Quizlet on this page!
- In this week's issue of Country Weekly magazine (March 16th, with Jo Dee Messina on the cover), Kevin is nominated for a Golden Pick Award: Entertainer with the Biggest Heart!
To cast your vote, buy the magazine and send in the voting card in that issue. (It also serves as an entry to win a weekend trip to Nashville.) In the last category on the ballot, he's #10 on the list. Nominees for the award are: Garth, Billy Ray, Joe Diffie, Vince, Neal, Reba, Willie Nelson, Randy Owen, Collin Raye and Kevin!
- Stay tuned for a Fan Fair reminder!
March 4, 1999:
- Wow! "Ask and ye shall receive." A little birdy (with fine feathered connections, I might add) told me that "Kevin will indeed be recording for Warner Bros. He will be in studio in April to cut tracks for a new album; no release date as yet. Chris Farren and Jeff Steele will produce."
Ya heard it here first, LOL! Come back for more as that lovely little bird chirps. ;>
March 3, 1999:
- Well, no news is bad news. Grrrrr. There are still rumors and news reports everywhere about Kevin leaving Asylum Records. Yet another rumor says he signed (or will) with Warner Bros. Keep checking here at KevinFriends for anything earth-shattering!
- Kevin has been popping up here and there around the country, sometimes in unexpected and/or unannounced places. Keep your eyes and ears open!
- One more rumor has it that Kevin has been in the recording studio off and on since the beginning of the new year. Let's hope a new album is on its way soon!
- Got a News bite? (Or even a dastardly rumor at this point?!) Please share!
January 4, 1999:
- Happy New Year! Don't forget: The Life and Times of Kevin Sharp airs Tuesday, January 5 at 8 p.m. EST on TNN! ("Check your local listings." Oh, and scroll down to November 18 for the program description.)
